In a life-threatening emergency such as sudden severe chest pain, loss of consciousness or severe bleeding - dial 999 before ringing the surgery.

Please try to come to the surgery if at all possible. If you are too unwell to come in, and you think you need a home visit , please try to call before 10:00am. The Doctor will then call you back.

Late & afternoon visits will be done at the duty doctors discretion.

Please only contact us on the above number if you have a medical emergency, do not ring this number to make an appointment as it is a dedicated line for emergencies only.

We are responsible for your care and needs from:

8:00am till 6:00pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays)

Emergencies During the Out of Hours Period

What does 'Out of Hours' mean?

Out of hours simply refers to the times that we are closed. These times are:

6:00pm to 8:00am Monday to Friday
All day weekends
All day Bank Holidays

Who to contact during this period

You should still use the above telephone number, but if the surgery is closed then you will hear an answer phone message telling you the number to dial directly. Your call will be answered by clinically trained staff at the Staffordshire Ambulance Service. They will assess your problem and identify what to do next. The options they can offer you include:

Advice and self-help , Where it is established that you are able to treat yourself.

Primary Care Centre Appointment, Where it is established after the initial phone call or home visit that you need to see a doctor, an appointment would be arranged at the Cross Street Primary Care Centre, Burton, DE14 1EG.

Home visit , if you need further investigation or there is a possibility that you could be treated at home, arrangements would be made for a Community Paramedic Officer (CPO) or other appropriate health professional to visit you at home. Further action will be determined following the initial visit and assessment

Emergency Ambulance, Where it is established that you have an emergency condition, the call will be upgraded and be dealt with as if you had dialled "999"
