New Practice Nurse Starts on 7th January 2007
Diane Thornewill

Our new practice nurse Diane starts on the 7th January 2008. Although she will be doing a few clinics throughout December, to get to grips with our computer system.
We look forward to her starting in January and hope you will make her feel welcome.

Dr Harris Joins Stapenhill Surgery

Dr Juliette Harris will be joining the team here from 5th December 2007 to 5th June 2009.

She is a GP Registrar, previously working in A&E at Queens Hospital Burton, who is now nearing completion of her 3 year GP training scheme. You may meet her working alongside the nurses and doctors her, or be offered an appointment with her in one of her surgeries. We are sure you find her a helpful and valuable member of the team.

Dr Kaye is back - Formally Dr Richins


On the 2nd August 2007 Dr Melanie Kaye will be returnind to our team as our new GP Registrar.

You may remember Dr Kaye from when she was working with last year, when she was known as Dr Richins.

Dr Kaye is a qualified Doctor who has been working in hospitals for the last eighteen months (most recently at Queens Hospital, Burton) and is now working with us to gain experience in General Practice. The other GP's here are very glad to welcome her working alongside other team members to help you.

You may be offered an appointment with Dr Kaye, and we hope you will find her a great addition to the team here at Stapenhill Medical Centre and give her a warm welcome back to the surgery.

Appointment System Changes

Our system for booking appointments has changed, when you now telephone the surgery to make an appointment the receptionist will ask you, on behalf of the doctors, what the problem is. This is so that you are directed to the best health care professional to help you. Please be ready to give this information to our receptionists.

4th April 2007
New Dr joins our team

Dr Fahad Fazal

Dr Fahad Fazal will be working with us for the next four months, gaining experience of primary care and how we work. He is a fully qualified doctor who has recently done surgical, psychiatric, GUM and medical jobs in the hospital sector and is now working in the community as part of his further training.

You may meet his as he “Sits in” with GP’s, Nurses or the Midwife and soon he will begin doing surgeries in his own right.

He will be able to advise, treat and refer you as any other doctor would, but he will be able to discuss any problems he might have with Dr Needham or any of the other doctors as we are a training practice.

We hope you will be happy to see him and are confident he will be a great addition to the surgery.

Flu jabs are only available for people who are at risk, the at risk groups are:

If you are not in one of the at risk group, you will need to make further arrangements to have the vaccination done privately, as we are unable to do this.

WEAR IT PINK DAY THIS FRIDAY
27th October 2006

This Friday the 27th October is Wear it Pink Day. We are encouraging everyone to ‘wear it pink’ for Breast Cancer Campaign.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer and one woman in nine will be affected by it during her lifetime in the United Kingdom. All the money raised at the surgery will help keep Campaign researching the cure for breast cancer.
“’wear it pink’ is a fun and simple way to raise funds for research into breast cancer, so join us on Friday, 27 October and donate £2 to the Charity”

DR BUTLER COMPETES IN THE RAMSEY SPRINT

Dr

Dr Butler, the motor bike enthusiast of the surgery, competed in the Ramsey Sprint at the Isle of Man TT festival, where he came 12th out of 20 with a top speed of 91mph in 8.20secs. WELL DONE!!

QOF RESULTS 2006

This year we have achieved 1038 out of a maximum of 1050 points, that’s 98.85%. We would like to say a huge thank you to staff involved and hope you see the results reflect within the practice.

PRACTICE BASED COMMISSIONING

This is a new government initiative allowing GP practices to control its own budget and how it is spent. The 19 local GP practices are working together on this to try and improve health care in the area. Dr Butler has been elected to the Steering Group Board, by fellow GP's, which means the surgery should be able to directly influence where money is spent.

1st April 2006

DIABETIC COURSE

Dr Butler has passed the Certificate in Diabetes Care from Warwick University this month. The course took a year to complete most of which was completed in his own time. Now working closely with our practice nurses Dr Butler is helping to improve your diabetic care.

OUR NEW
"EXPRESS CLINIC "

As from Monday 20th February 2006 we will be holding, for a trial period, a new type of clinic called the "Express Clinic". There will be no pre-booked appointments in these clinics. You will need to arrive promptly between 14.30 and 15.30 Monday to Friday, and you will be seen by whichever doctor is available.

The appointments in these clinics will be short appointments and will be for one problem only.

The doctor will give priority to emergencies. Therefore, your wait may increase significantly at peak times.

On Tuesday 7th February we will have a new face joining the team here at Stapenhill. Dr Caroline Garside will be joining the practice.

Dr Roberts is leaving

We regret to inform you that Dr Anna Roberts will be leaving us. After 11 years of working at the surgery she will be greatly missed by all members of staff, and we are sure by many, many patients.
Dr Roberts' last day will be Friday 17th February. And We would all like to wish her the very best in her new job.

BLOOD TESTING CLINICS

Friday Mornings between:
8:30am - 11:00am

From the 28th October we will be running a Blood Testing Clinic on a Friday morning. If the Doctor has requested that you have a blood test, all you will need to do is attend the surgery between 8:30 and 11:30.
There will be No Pre-booked appointments and if you do not have your form we will not be able to do the test.

HEALTH CARE ASSISTANTS

On the 18th July two Health Care Assistants joined our team, Fiona and Sandra. They assist the Practice Nurses doing Blood Tests, Blood Pressure monitoring, Weight Checks, smoking cessation advice and ECG's. We know you will make them feel welcome at Stapenhill Medical Centre.

You may have noticed two new faces at the surgery. Our new receptionist's, Tracey and Sunny, have just recently joined us and we would like to give them a big WELCOME, and we hope you will do the same. We will also shortly have two new Health Care Assistant's joining us, Fiona and Sandra. They are due to start within the next couple of weeks.

QOF RESULTS 2005

You may or may not have heard about QOF. This stands for Quality Outcome Framework. This is to help ensure that all GP surgeries maintain the highest quality care available for all patients. Different sections are worth different points, and there are a maximum of 1050. Out of a maximum of 1050 points we achieved 1011, that is 96.3%. We highly commend all members of staff who helped us achieve this target and hope it reflected to all patients with the standard of care they have received.

Changes to the Appointment system

Important changes to the appointment system: From the 1st May 2005. We will be opening our appointment lines at 8:00am, the surgery opening times will not be effected, the doors will still not open until 8:30am.

Also a number of the afternoons appointments will be available to book from 10:00am, and number of the next mornings appointments will be available from 2:00pm

Rachel and Dawn, our practice nurses, are doing a nurse prescribing course until the end of May. You may see them sitting in with one of our Doctors.

By training our nurses to prescribe it will ease the burden on doctors and reduces waiting times for appointments.

First Response Training

All the Doctors, Nurses and the reception staff have passed the First Response in Basic Life Support. This training was done here at the surgery in one of our half day closures.

Dr Butlers ATLS Course

Dr Butler has recently completed the ATLS course (Advanced Trauma and Life Support). He is the Chief Medical Officer at the Darley Moor Motorcycling Race Track, and attends the race meetings regularly.
